Litter Awareness Week
- Celebrated every year in Hoover during April
- Poster contest for Hoover third to fifth graders
How Can I Help?
- Adopt a street or area and pick up trash on a regular basis
- Carry a litter bag in your automobile
- Check commercial dumpsters to be sure they are closed
- Make sure trash containers have secure lids
- Pick up after your pet. Pet waste pollutes our water
- Secure loose items in recycling bins
- Set an example for others, especially children by not littering
Weeds
Invasive plants are a big problem in Alabama. They spread and aggressively replace native species in natural areas, right-of-ways and residential yards. This causes loss of natural habitat for wildlife and threatens endangered species.
You can help by removing these plants:
- Chinese Privet
- Japanese Honeysuckle
- Kudzu
- Mimosa
- Wisteria
Recycling
- Hoover curbside recycling
- Hoover Household Hazardous Waste Day
- Alabama Environmental Council
- Recycling center 2431 2nd Ave N. Bham
- Takes glass and many other items
